How To Apply Mag's Paw Grips
How To Apply Mag's™ Paw Grips
Step 1:
If needed, carefully trim the hair around your dog’s nails on the underside of the pad area.
Hint: we have found that using a personal electric trimmer makes this process a lot easier!
Step 2:
Trim your dog’s nails, as shown in Figure 1. If you are uncomfortable with trimming your dog’s nails, please use a veterinary professional.
Step 3:
Make sure the nails are free of dirt and debris.
Step 4:
Peel off one of the tape strips from the white backer sheet and then remove the clear film.
Step 5:
Using one finger, hold the end of the tape to the base of the dog’s nail (near the skin). Using a small amount of tension, wrap the longer end of the tape around the nail. Once the tape completely encompasses the nail, continue wrapping the nail until the entire nail (especially the tip) is completely covered.
Hint: We have found that spiraling around the width of the nail, then finishing going lengthwise over the tip of the nail provides optimum grip. See our video above.
Step 6:
If your dog’s nails are smaller in size, you may have excess material. For very small dogs, you can cut away a portion of the Grip Material lengthwise prior to applying to the dog’s nails (see Figure 2). After the nail has been wrapped several times, stretch the end of the material and cut off any excess material. Press the final end of the material firmly onto the previous wrapped portion of the nail to aid in preventing the material from unwinding.
Step 7:
Continue this process on all your dog’s nails. It is unnecessary to wrap the dewclaw.
Step 8:
Mag’s™ Paw Grips normally last about 3-4 weeks depending on your dog’s activity level. The grips will naturally wear (on the underside that contacts the floor) over time. If you begin to hear the clicking sound of your dog’s nails when they walk, it is probably time to replace the grips. We have included 4 extra grips in every kit.
How To Remove The Old Grips
Step A:
Using your own fingernail, the old grip can usually be slid off the dog’s nail. Sometimes scoring the top of the grip with the scissor blade then using your fingernail to slide the grip off is required. After the nail grip is removed, it is always recommended to inspect your dog’s nail.
Step B:
Install new grips starting at installation Step 1 from above.
